The markets lab your finance competitors practice in
Your students already know the Stock Market Game. MockXMarket is where they practice the hard parts: options, margin calls, breaking news that moves prices, and full crisis scenarios like the 2008 subprime collapse and the meme-stock squeeze. Built by a Bentley University finance professor for college finance courses, and now used by high-school DECA students.
$399 per school year · Invoice, school PO, or card · Students join with a class code, no student email needed
Works alongside the Stock Market Game, not instead of it
The Stock Market Game is a long-horizon portfolio competition. MockXMarket compresses a whole market into a single meeting, so your chapter can run a fast, advisor-controlled practice round any week of the year and talk through every decision afterward.
Live practice rounds
Run a 30 to 45 minute market in a chapter meeting. You control the speed, inject breaking news, and the leaderboard updates live on the projector.
Crisis scenarios
Ready-made cases: The Big Short (subprime collapse), Dumb Money (meme-stock squeeze), Fed Day, Earnings Day, Merger Arbitrage, and a Crypto Flash Crash. Everyone starts from the same position, so the debrief is fair.
Every asset class
Stocks, options, Treasuries, FX, equity indices, crypto, commodities, and index futures with margin, on real or synthetic market data. Turn classes on or off per session so beginners start simple.
Grades you can explain
Each student gets a letter grade built from return, risk-adjusted return (Sharpe), and portfolio discipline, plus a trade log. Useful for picking competition teams and for coaching.
How it maps to finance competitive events
| Event area | What students practice in MockXMarket |
|---|---|
| Stock Market Game | Fast reps on order types, diversification, short selling, and reacting to news before it shows up in their real portfolio |
| Personal Financial Literacy (investing, managing risk) | Risk versus return made concrete: watch a concentrated position swing, see what margin does to a loss |
| Business Finance Series, Financial Consulting | Scenario cases to analyze and present: what happened in 2008, why a squeeze happens, how a merger spread trades |
| Team decision-making events | Debrief a lab as a team: what the news meant, what you did, what you would do differently |
Questions advisors ask
What does it cost and how do we pay?
The Chapter plan is $399 per school year for one high-school chapter or class, with no per-student fees. We send an invoice you can pay by card, school purchase order, or check, and we can provide a W-9. Students never pay.
What student information do you collect?
Very little. Students join a session with a 6-character class code and a display name. No student email, account, or birthdate is required, and we suggest first names or nicknames. The advisor holds the only account. We will sign your district's student data privacy agreement on request. See our privacy policy.
Is this too advanced for high-school students?
You choose what each session includes. Start with stocks only, then switch on options, margin, or other asset classes when your students are ready. Ready-made cases come with a short scenario write-up you can walk through before trading.
Can we try it first?
Yes. Request a chapter plan and mention you want a pilot; we are offering free pilots to a small number of chapters through January 31, 2027 so you can use it for district conference prep.
Is MockXMarket part of DECA?
No. MockXMarket is an independent company. It is built for business and finance competition chapters, and DECA chapters use it, but it is not affiliated with or endorsed by DECA Inc.
